The Club The Willetton Amateur Football Club has enjoyed a highly successful and rapid rise in its short history. Founded in 1999, the Club is centred at the Willetton Sports Club facilities on Burrendah Boulevard, Willetton (opposite Southlands Shopping Centre) and is a division of the Willetton Sports Club Inc., which is one of the largest and most comprehensive sporting complexes in the State. As a member of the Western Australian Amateur Football League (WAAFL), the Willetton Amateur Football Club has progressed up the grades to be a very respected and admired Club, despite lacking the historical tradition of some of its rivals. In its inaugural year (1999), the league side comprehensively won the E-grade premiership, following this up in 2000, by winning the D-grade premiership and being promoted to C-grade. 2001 to 2003 saw the Willetton Blues, as they are proudly known; reach three consecutive C-grade Grand finals. At the beginning of 2004, as a result of this sustained good performance, the WAAFL rewarded the Club by promoting the league side to B-grade. Steady improvement throughout 2004 and 2005 saw the Willetton Blues establish themselves in B-grade. A credible fourth place and finals campaign in 2005 provided the basis for our future; however a poorer showing in 2006 has meant relegation to C grade in season 2007. We consider this a minor setback and will allow us to move forward through a strong, and potentially dominate performance at that level to attain a premiership and return to B grade status. The club is totally committed to that objective this season. In addition to the league side, the Willetton Amateur Football Club is made up of a reserves, thirds and colts’ side. Supporting the league sides’ significant youth aspect, the colts have been highly successful, winning premierships in 2001, 2004 and 2006 and consistently playing in finals. We believe this strong Colts foundation provides the basis for continued improvement in the league ranks. Despite the considerable costs associated with running a football club and not having our own bar facilities which other clubs rely upon heavily, the Willetton Amateur Football Club is well-run and in a stable financial position. Much of this can be attributed to the support of sponsors and the willingness of the players to show their support for the club. Present and previous stars of the club include the following players: AFL: Brett Peake (Fremantle Dockers)
WAFL: Ryan Phelps (East Frem) In addition to those named above, there have been many players who have had state representation. Many fine players have had the privilege of representing our club. The talent, past and present, provides our sponsors with additional resources to penetrate their market. We encourage all players to assist where possible with major sponsor’s promotional activities.
